Success StoriesS. was a Technical Editor who felt she was in the wrong career field. We worked to clarify her work preferences and strengths. We found she didn't need a career change, only a move to an environment that fit her work-related values. She found a "dream job" in a great environment and has been promoted twice. T. is an Executive Assistant who was clear about the job she wanted and who her ideal employers would be. But her resume didn't do a good job of presenting her strengths and she didn't know how to talk about her accomplishments in an interview. We worked to strengthen both areas and she immediately started interviewing for great jobs at prestigious companies. H. is a Writer and Web Designer who would feel almost physically ill at the thought of interviewing, which prevented her from finding a better job. I came up with a way for her to use her book of writing/ design samples in interviews, so she would not have to talk as much. This "A picture is worth a 1000 words" approach gave her confidence, and she became much more relaxed in interviews. The end result was she found a job that was a big step forward in her career. D. had tremendous accomplishments as a Marketing VP, but his interviewing style was flat. He didn't come across as the dynamic leader he really was. I used my "Selling Yourself" model to teach him how to put his accomplishments into stories that create excitement and credibility. He is currently interviewing for an opportunity that meets his career goals. S. is a Civil Engineer who needed to make a job change because his current firm couldn't meet his salary requirements. We worked together to identify a list of potential employers and to build a resume. I also did extensive coaching with S. on interviewing and salary negotiating. S. had two offers and chose the one that best met his salary needs, while also giving him interesting work. L.'s career as an Electronics Engineer had been spent almost entirely in a research institution doing very specialized work. He wanted to make a job change, but felt his background made him unattractive to commercial firms. I showed him how his knowledge could transfer to another environment. More importantly, I helped him to create a focused resume and coached him on how to sell himself in interviews. He received offers from two leading companies and made a successful job change. | |||
